Te Rapa Gateway Industrial Subdivision
Client: Te Rapa Gateway Ltd
Project Duration: Stage 1B to Stage 5
Location: Hamilton
The Project
The Te Rapa Gateway Industrial Subdivision is a large-scale development situated at the northern end of Hamilton, spanning approximately 51.9 hectares. This multi-stage project, led by Te Rapa Gateway Limited, involves the creation of around 100 industrial lots to support the region’s growing demand for industrial infrastructure. The development required extensive earthworks, infrastructure construction, and geotechnical input, carried out over several stages from 2012 to 2019.
Our Role
HD Geo was engaged from Stage 1B through to the final stages of the project, providing geotechnical expertise and support across all phases of the subdivision. Our responsibilities included:
Site Investigations: Conducting detailed assessments, including hand augers, cone penetration tests (CPTs), and excavation pits to characterize subsurface conditions.
Geotechnical Design: Developing preload designs, bearing capacity assessments, and liquefaction mitigation strategies to address site-specific challenges.
Construction Support: Observing and providing recommendations during bulk earthworks and infrastructure construction, including the development of a stormwater pond, seven roads, two roundabouts, and two culvert crossings.
Problem-Solving: Managing complex geotechnical challenges, including up to 5-meter deep peat deposits, high groundwater levels, and sensitive soils.
Consenting and Reporting: Delivering geotechnical reporting to support subdivision consent, detailed design items, and completion sign-offs (Geotechnical Completion report (GCR), Schedule 2A and Producer Statements).
The Results
Our team collaborated closely with the project team, Te Rapa Gateway Limited, Schick Civil, and other project stakeholders to meet the project schedules and ensure the successful delivery of this subdivision. Our geotechnical solutions and on-site support contributed to the timely completion of the development, overcoming significant ground challenges and providing a strong foundation for the industrial lots.
