Rock Fall Risk Assessment
A significant rockfall occurred on the slopes above the Eastern Ōkataina Walkway in January of 2021. Department of Conservation (DOC) closed the walkway immediately after the slip because of the risk of subsequent rockfall.
DOC engaged us to complete a rock fall risk assessment for this slip, and the surrounding track to understand the risk to life for track users from falling blocks and landslides. The results are being used to assist DOC with the ongoing management and optioneering of a mitigating solution in order to reopen the track.
