We are HD Geo – a progressive consultancy specialising in geotechnical engineering and contaminated land. Due to the continued growth of our business, we are looking to expand our great team and take on a Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist for our New Plymouth office.

As a Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist for HD Geo you will be responsible for undertaking investigations and assessments, preparing designs, writing reports and completing site observations and testing – and that’s just touching the surface! This role is suited for someone who is excited by and excels in the design of engineering structures. Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Planning, directing and conducting investigative work to analyse the likely behaviour of soil and rock when placed under pressure by proposed structures, and designs above and below ground foundations.
  • Performing geotechnical/geological site investigations and analyses.
  • Assessment and design of complex geotechnical/geological engineering solutions.
  • Preparation of drawings and/or provision of information to others in order for them to produce plans and drawings.
  • Conduct site assessments to determine appropriate location for structures/foundations.
  • Use dedicated software to understand data and model future conditions.
  • Seek guidance on matters relating to quality of output, presentation and on any circumstances where negotiations/communications with clients are causing, or has the potential to cause, difficulties.
  • Closely liaise with the Manager on job progress and particularly any indications that deadlines/targets might not be achieved.
  • Provide assistance with writing and pricing offers of service.
  • Supervise and administer contracts.
  • Manage all project information for which you are assigned responsibility so that it is easily understood and available to any other employees of the company. Information may include external information, testing results, assessments, designs, correspondence and any other information.
  • Undertake tasks assigned in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Undertake any other tasks associated with your allocated jobs and duties as delegated by a Manager or Director.
  • Follow all company systems, procedures and guidelines.
  • Attend training and develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
  • Stay up to date with relevant standards, codes and legislation.
  • Adhere to local and externally relevant health and safety laws and policies.
  • Always act in a way that reflects the professional image of the company.

Your key attributes will be:

Requirements:

  • Degree in engineering or science
  • At least 3 years of experience in geotechnical/geological investigations

You will be responsible for undertaking environmental investigations and assessments, writing reports, and completing site observations and testing. Your Key responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct environmental investigations and assessments.
  • Assist with remedial action and site management plans.
  • Report writing in accordance with the National Environmental Standard for Assessing and Managing Contaminants in Soil to Protect Human Health.
  • Site observation and testing or other tasks as may be reasonably required.
  • Provide Specialised Technical Service and recommendations, take part in developing solutions to complex problems requiring a good understanding of practices, techniques, regulatory requirements, concepts, and theoretical principles.
  • Maintain good client relationships.
  • Make field judgements and decisions.
  • Evaluate potential risk to human health against guidelines.
  • Assist with contaminated site remediation.
  • Assist with contaminated site monitoring.
  • Ensure all project information is easily understood and made available to other employees of the company.
  • Adhere to company’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Assist new staff.
  • Prepare proposals for client consideration.
  • Interface with regulatory and Council staff.
  • Manage all project information for which you are assigned responsibility so that it is easily understood and available to any other employees of the company. Information may include external information, testing results, assessments, designs, correspondence and any other information.

  • Log bores and develop geotechnical reports.
