Commercial Land Development
Visy’s new corrugated packaging facility in Hamilton, NZ was officially opened in May 2018.
This project involved land development and construction of a 30,0000m3 warehouse in the Western Precinct of Titanium Park near Hamilton Airport. The building is 261m long, up to 160m wide, and comprises 37,000 m2 of production storage and service areas, 850 m2 of offices / amenities area, 3,500m2 of car parking , and 16300m2 of circulation roading.
Site work included bulk earthworks, construction of a stormwater pond, access roads, the warehouse, and two water tanks (up to 15 m in diameter, 1100 m3). Challenges included cuts of up to 5 m into highly sensitive clay soils, lime-stabilization, and construction of the warehouse across variable ground conditions, and information management.
Our work included coordinating the site investigation, preparing the earthworks specification, detailed assessment of the natural hazards at the site (liquefaction, soft soils and sediment, expansive soils), providing inputs for foundation design (for the warehouse, heavy machinery, and water tanks), and construction observation (natural subgrade, fill testing, foundation inspections).
