Edin Rotokauri North
Client: MADE
Project Duration: 2017 to 2024
Location: Hamilton, Waikato
The Project
The Edin Rotokauri North project is a major land development initiative located west of Hamilton, approximately 2km from Te Rapa. This ambitious development spans multiple stages, including the creation of around 1,200 residential sections and a school site. The landscape, which features near-level pastoral land as well as low hills, requires careful earthworks and infrastructure planning to support the residential and community spaces.
Our Role
Our role in the Edin Rotokauri North project involved a close partnership with the client and other stakeholders, ensuring the project’s success through detailed geotechnical and contaminated land assessments. Our contributions included:
Conducting thorough site investigations and assessments to support engineering design and construction.
Collaborating with the wider project team to integrate geotechnical and environmental considerations into the development process.
Providing key recommendations to guide infrastructure development, ensuring long-term safety and sustainability.
We supported the project through plan change, fast track, and subdivision resource consent applications.
Geotechnical Work
Our geotechnical team conducted comprehensive assessments to support the design of various structures such as boardwalks, bridges, and stormwater treatment wetland culverts. This included:
Detailed desktop studies, site walkovers, and ground investigations to assess geotechnical constraints.
geotechnical investigations included hand augers, soakage testing and long-term groundwater monitoring, CPTs, seismic CPTs, drillholes, test pits, paleoliquefaction trenching, and geomorphic mapping
Recommendations to address soil conditions and support infrastructure design, ensuring the site was geotechnically suitable for development.
Ongoing support to ensure high construction standards will be maintained throughout the earthworks and infrastructure phases.
Contaminated Land Work
Our contaminated land team conducted in-depth contaminated land assessments to ensure the site was safe for development. This included:
Preliminary Site Investigations (PSI) and Detailed Site Investigations (DSI) to identify potential contaminants across the site.
Collection and analysis of soil samples from targeted areas to assess contamination risks.
Recommendations for further investigations and remediation, ensuring that any potential risks to human health and the environment are managed effectively.
The Results
The Edin Rotokauri North project highlights the strong collaboration between our geotechnical, contaminated land, and wider project teams, all working together to ensure the project’s progression through the consenting phases. Our detailed geotechnical and contaminated land assessments provided critical insights, allowing the project to move forward with confidence and in line with regulatory requirements. The successful consenting of the project marks a key milestone, setting the foundation for the next phases of development. The project exemplifies the value of teamwork and meticulous planning in achieving a positive outcome for all stakeholders.
